Is there really such as thing as free online classes?
If you want to enroll in an online class for credit, you will need to spend your time and money to complete the course—and let's face it, college credit is far from free. But, if you are just looking to learn, there are free college classes online in a variety of fields on a variety of subjects, even at varying levels. Today, many top colleges host non-credit eligible, free online classe via podcasts and webinars on potent topics which will assist you in your educational goals, without depleting your wallet in the process!
Just by visiting a college's website, you can view lists of classes they have on file from previous years generally. Schools like Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Carnegie Melon University, Stanford University, Tufts University, Utah State University and the University of California at both Berkeley and Irvine offer this type of free online class. Many of these schools also offer course assignments and lecture notes, as well as supplementary materials that you can print out at home. Stanford University free online classes provide links to course materials that can be downloaded on iTunes! Between these schools alone, thousands of classes and tutorials in a wide range of subject matters are offered, and these are open to anyone with computer access.
The downside to free online class is that you are never technically considered a student at the school. When you complete a the class, you do not earn a degree, and even though you may have completed coursework, you are not considered a graduate of the university. Even if this is the case though, you will have gained a great deal of knowledge that can benefit you in your personal and professional life.
