When looking at a list of the top online colleges, there are a number of commonalities. Along with having a wealth of graduates who are successful in the fields in which they have obtained their degrees, top online colleges also possess accreditation from recognized agencies, and offer a variety of course and degree selections.
When polled about what makes an online college prestigious, many students indicated that the variety of course offerings plays an important role. Top online colleges usually offer many different courses in a large range of subject areas. Even amidst degree programs, subject area offerings will be diversified, offering students the opportunity to fine tune their education to what they hope to achieve.
After researching the acceptance rate, financial aid, graduation rate, peer web citations, retention rate, scholarly citations, student-faculty ratio and years accredited of a number of online schools, the Online Education Database compiled a list of what it views as the top online schools. Though an objective list such as this may not be a foolproof way of deciding upon which school to attend (as it does not take into account individual concentrations) it can be a helpful tool when beginning your research to find a school!
