Admission Tests for Online Degrees

We have all been there. Sitting in a hard chair, a sea of empty bubbles swimming on the paper underneath your #2 pencil, wondering if these standardized test scores will really mean anything, to anyone once you get off the chair. With online degrees, the significance of standardized test scores may vary more than you thought...

Are test scores important when applying to an online education program?

Online Education Schools do not generally require Test Scores

Admission tests for online degrees are not always required. While traditional schools consider college admission tests, including the SAT and ACT, a sounding board for the admission process, and scholarship opportunities, online degree granting schools do not. If an SAT or ACT score is below a certain level in the traditional 4-year college setting, a student will not be considered in some cases, or are admitted despite low scores based on stellar academic performance or outstanding letters of recommendation.

Today, through online education programs in nearly every subject, higher education is becoming more accessible to those who seek it. Simply obtaining some lower test scores on the first try is not the end of the road for your education. Thankfully, online school admission requirements can vary a great deal from traditional school admission requirements. An online education program will typically not require an entrance test at all. However, online education schools may require some courses to prove your achievements in Math and English in place of standardized tests. As a result, one benefit of having a qualifying test score is that you can skip these classes, allowing you to complete your online degree faster.

So, although it is best to try your hardest if you really want to get into that online degree program of your choosing — don't panic if you get some low test scores along the way. You can try again, or your previous performance can pull you though!
