Online Design Degrees

There is high demand in the many varying areas of the design field, and there are many schools offering online education programs in this field. Why? The expertise of a designer allows companies to promote their services via print, online, and digital media, as well as effectively communicate messages both internally and externally via the visual medium. But, design is not an easy field to get into. Designers are often required to have degrees at of least the Bachelors level. So, if you do not yet have a degree, and a traditional campus-based program doesn't fit into your lifestyle, an online degree, specifically an online design degree may help you get into this highly desirable, career field.

Why Companies Need Design Degree Graduates

Online Design Degrees

Without the work of designers, companies would lack the ability to effectively analyze, plan, create and implement visual solutions to their communication based problems. Company websites and publications would be inefficient, or lacking all together. Companies would not have logos that would make them recognizable to consumers, and therefore demand for their product would dwindle, and the company would suffer financially. All because of the lack of qualified designers!

While studying for an online arts degree in design, students learn the principles of working with illustration, photography, color, animation, font, and a variety of different computer layout techniques. Working online lends greatly to a degree in design, as much of the work for designers is done electronically!

Types of Design Degrees Online

The term "online design degree" encompasses a wide array of different specialties. The most in-demand aspect of design is the graphic design degree, which is projected to offer the highest range of job opportunities in the coming years. Graphic designers who have website and animation experience are expected to have the best opportunities. Though a bachelors degree is required for most entry level positions in graphic design, an associates degree may be sufficient for the more technical based positions.

Though the most opportunities may go to graphic designers, students can also earn online design degrees in over a dozen other fields, such as internet and web development, architectural design, industrial design, game software development, web design, interior design, multimedia design, advertising, fashion design, merchandising, animation, game art and design, and web application development.

Career Paths for Online Design Majors

About thirty percent of those who have obtained an online design degree are self employed. These people often find work as freelance design artists, obtaining contract positions, but are not permanently employed by any certain company. Others are salaried employees working as publication designers, multimedia designers, webpage designers, animators, art directors and illustrators. The world after obtaining an online design degree has endless possibilities, especially for those who move on to obtain higher level degrees and certifications!
