Completing Your Online Degree

How long will it take for you to complete your online degree? The answer to this question really lies in the type of online education program you enroll in. Because most online degree programs are geared toward the adult learner, you can expect to find a variety of accelerated degree programs while you are pursuing your online degree. Whereas most traditional Bachelor's degree programs can be expected to be completed in about four years, or eight semesters of coursework — accelerated online Bachelor's degrees can be expected to be completed in about half of that time — or two years, on average. Those pursuing online degrees have been found to benefit greatly from shorter class length and the flexible schedule allowed by taking online courses!

Completing your online degree program

The amount of classes and amount of credits earned in an online degree program is exactly the same as the amount of classes and credits earned in a traditional, campus based program. An Associate degree is earned by completing 60 credits of coursework. A Bachelor's degree is earned by completing a total of 120 credits of coursework (with the Associates degree counting towards those credits). A Master's Degree is approximately 30-36 credits on top of the Bachelor's degree, depending on the program of study.

But, what if you have started your degree program at another school? Possibly a campus based program? What happens to the credits you have earned elsewhere? Are they transferrable? In most cases, yes! In most cases, online colleges will accept up to about 30-50% of your earned credits as a transfer, as long as these credits have been earned from an accredited university in the past few years. In many cases, general education courses or elective courses are fairly simple to transfer credits from one school to another, but it can be more difficult to transfer degree specific credits, so it is always best to check with an admissions counselor about specific credits that you wish to transfer!

So, now that you have done all of the coursework related to pursuing your online degree — the final question that remains is how you will actually receive that degree! In rare cases, particular schools will offer graduation ceremonies in which a student will actually be handed their degree, but in most cases, those students pursuing online degrees can expect to receive their degree by mail once they have completed the course requirements.

Although completing your online degree is not a simple task, it is well within your reach if you take the right steps! Request free information today, and get started!
