One pressing question about online degree schools is whether they are legitimate. After all, you aren't going to want to waste your time and money working towards a degree online that ends up not being valid! In practice, there are many online degree schools that are accredited institutions, and offer a valid diploma upon completion. Before applying to any school, ask questions. Search for college reviews from past graduates, find out whether the institution is accredited, ask about the cost of online degrees at the institution and if there are any additional fees associated with the program. Ask what credentials the faculty has, and what is expected of you in order to succeed. Any school that is not able to provide answers to these questions is most likely not a valid institution.
Once you have some information about online degree schools, and decided which program will work for you, the answers to your other questions will most likely fall into place. Typically, schools offering degrees online will work in a web forum type of format. Assignments are submitted either via email or as posts on a web forum, and most student/teacher communication is done electronically. Students are sometimes asked to work in groups, which can occur completely online, or in person if the students are close enough geographically to meet.
Online education degrees are offered in a wide array of subject areas. Nearly every degree can be completed 100% online, and you will never have to go to campus during your program. However, some online degrees will require an in-person component. For example, nursing degrees require clinical experience at a local hospital, in addition to online work. Hybrid degrees exist as well that are completed partly in-person at a local college, and partly online, but this is an option you would select when applying to the program.
