Online School Admission Requirements

Every school is different, but in most cases, admissions requirements for online schools are a fairly straight forward issue to face in your hunt to obtain an online education.

When you are applying for admission into an online school, the application itself will most likely inform you of any documents that are required. You can find out more information by visiting the online school's page on this site and clicking "Request Info". In the majority of cases, admissions into an online college is similar to admissions into a traditional college or university, but the requirements for getting a degree online are more lenient in regards to admissions test scores.

Admissions Requirements vary at online schools, so do your homework!

Traditional requirements for admission include SAT, ACT or GRE scores. Many traditional schools will not consider applicants who do not meet minimum score requirements on these standardized tests, however many online schools do not require these tests for acceptance. If you have not taken any of these tests, some schools may require that you do before you are considered for admission to their online education program, or that you take an English and a Math course in addition to your degree coursework. The online school may waive this requirement based on other documentation (such as work experience, life experience, or a high grade point average).

Transcripts from previous education must also be mailed or faxed to the institution during the online degree application. As in the case of standardized tests, many schools have a minimum grade point average (or GPA) which will be considered for transfer admission. If your GPA does not meet this minimum range, higher standardized test scores or work experience may be substituted in some cases, depending on the individual school or online degree requirements.

If you are pursuing your a degree online you will also need to have regular access to a high speed internet connection. If you do not have the hardware needed to complete the coursework, you may have trouble submitting your work in a timely manner, and therefore will deprive yourself of the ability to succeed! In the case that you do not own your own computer or have Internet at home, a local library's computer lab or the local coffee shop, but alternatively you can consider a distance learning program instead.
