Will my degree say "online"?
We all know that obtaining a college degree is no walk in the park. Classes are difficult, projects are tedious research and writing a paper can take days. This is the same for both students attending campus-based programs at colleges or universities, and for students pursuing an online education through web based colleges or universities. And yet, there is a certain stigma around obtaining a degree online.
The answer to the question: will my degree say "online?" In the majority of cases, is no. Your online degree will not indicate that you have obtained it in the online setting, versus obtaining it at a specific campus location. The degree will simply state which online school the degree was obtained at, the degree type and nothing further.
When choosing an online degree program, this is not something you will need to consider. Those students pursuing online degrees are simply viewed as students of a specific campus, the "online campus." This "campus" is simply viewed as if it is a separate geographical location by the school itself. The degree will simply state the name of the school (ie. Capella University) and the degree earned. The degree requirements are the same, whether the program is based on campus or online, so the degree shows no indication of a difference.
Although there will not be any indication written on your degree itself that states it was obtained through an online school, prospective employers may be able to tell that you earned your degree online if you attended a school that is widely known as an online-only university. You may fear that there is a stigma attached to this, but you simply need to use the knowledge that you have gained throughout your education to impress these prospective employers after you graduate with an online degree. Prove that you are, indeed, the right person for the job, and while you are at it, you can get to work on removing the stigma from online education!
