Director of Engineering and Web Development

Lead the Development and Engineering practice (Team of 8) at Edvisors (25 FTE), including Development (front and back end), QA, Data Warehouse (Development, QA, and Operations), Release Engineering, Operations Fulfillment, and Technical Documentation. Establish, plan, and administer the overall policies and goals for the information technology department. Analyze the needs of different departments and determine ways to meet business objectives by modifying existing or developing new information processing systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directs and oversees an organization's strategic and long-range e-commerce goals. Develops Internet/extranet strategy and coordinates effort across all IT functions to support company's business strategy.
  • Provide technical leadership to the operations team and help champion technical innovation within systems
  • Management of Technology Operations team for client facing products including release management, issues resolution and deployment /​ delivery architecture
  • Drive the development & ongoing maintenance of operational processes aimed at improving productivity, reducing downtime, improving performance, providing timely resolution of client issues and working towards globally integrated operations & support processes.​

Operations

  • Understand in depth of the business requirements, rules & logic behind the supported business system(s) to assist in determining a resolution for issues
  • Responsible for all the website and software development within an organization. Directs the software engineering function in developing, releasing, and maintaining websites, software applications, and operating systems
  • Appropriately apply resources to meet both fixed date projects and interrupt-driven support tasks; Prioritize and respond to all issues with a sense of urgency
  • Problem solving complex issues proactively by collaboration and effective research. Assist in trouble shooting network issues as they relate to complex web application infrastructure.
  • Assist in the specification, scoping, documentation and delivery of Operations Team projects
  • Assist other team members with their daily duties and projects by providing technical assistance and guidance
  • Customer servicing both internal and external stakeholders through regular communication of updates on relevant issues
  • Ensure the systems meet performance and availability SLA expectations
  • Measure and report on the performance of the Technology Operations team

Project Management

  • Build and maintain a structured "Agile" operational program while regularly communicating the status of projects to all impacted stakeholders.

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree, master’s degree preferred, in a related area with at least 10-15 years of experience in the field. Candidate should be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Candidate should have advanced technical knowledge of the application technologies and platforms that the operations team support with a experience running web applications in a LAMP environment, Data Warehousing, OLAP, CRM, reporting, custom administration panels, web services and data exchanges.
