Online Art Schools
It may be difficult for many people to wrap their minds around the idea of online art schools. The traditional belief is that art is a visual or auditory medium, and that in order to learn about it — a student must be in a "hands on" environment, with an instructor in front of them to provide critique. In the views of these people, online art schools must be scams, fly by night places which are only out to collect the money of unsuspecting students. But, this is most certainly not the case! Majors at Online Art Schools
Online arts degrees can be obtained in a wide variety of fields, such as animation, art therapy, computer art and design, fashion design, film and video, game design, graphic design, interior design, media arts, photography, visual communications and web design. There are a vast number of online colleges and universities which offer certificate and degree programs in these fields. Many of these programs are also in the accelerated program fashion which makes online schools so appealing to many students who wish to obtain degrees in a short period of time!
How Online Art Schools Work
But, how do these degree programs actually work? The answer to this question is fairly simple — they work in the same way in which a degree program in an unrelated field would work. Students submit assignments in the form of faxes, emails, and web forum posts to professors who accept and provide feedback on these assignments remotely. Projects are assigned by a professor for students to complete on their own time, and submit by given deadlines. Often, group projects are assigned, offering the students the opportunity to collaborate with fellow classmates, even though they never come in face to face contact with one another!
Accredited Online Art Schools
Online art schools go through an accreditation process similar to that of other colleges and universities. Schools which have not obtained accreditation are often not valid universities, and should be closely examined. The largest governing body for accreditation of art schools is National Association of Schools of Art and Design, or NASAD. Founded in 1944, NASAD is a subset of the Council of Arts Accrediting Associations (CAAA), which also governs accrediting organizations for schools of dance, theater and music. The US Department of Education recognizes NASAD as the agency which is responsible for the accreditation of all art and design curricula. NASAD creates a framework for all arts programs, which ensures that students receive a quality and well rounded education, encompassing a wide variety of subjects and skills.

Obtaining an art degree from an online art school can be extremely beneficial to the busy student, as projects and assignments are all submitted to your online education classroom versus having to commute to a campus classroom. Students are able to submit assignments from anywhere with internet access, and are not under such difficult time constraints.
