Online Culinary Schools
Is your kitchen your sanctuary? Are you always the go to person for dinner parties, just based on the amazing dishes that emerge from behind the doors of your oven? Do you dream of someday owning your own restaurant? But — where do you find the time in your busy life to actually move forward in attaining your dream? Read on to learn about online culinary schools, they may be the answer to your dreams!
About Online Culinary Schools
Now, online culinary schools aren't exactly what you may think they are. Most executive chefs agree that you cannot learn everything you need to learn about cooking from an online school. Because of this, the focus of most online culinary schools is not, in fact, cooking. The majority of degrees which one can obtain online in the culinary arts focus more on culinary management then they do on actual cooking. Students learn about the logistics of handling and dealing with food, as well as the business aspects of running a food based business. Most culinary degree programs which promise degrees completely online are actually aimed at the recreational chef, not those who are aiming to be professionals.
Now, this isn't to say that NO students can earn a culinary degree online. Students who have prior experience with culinary arts are at times allowed to finish their degree programs in the online setting. In the majority of cases, these students have already obtained Associate's degrees in culinary arts from traditional campus based programs, and move on to obtain their Bachelor's or Master's degrees online.
Earning a bachelors degree in culinary arts is actually a rather new idea. Up until a few years ago, students reached their limit in the culinary arts degree when they had obtained an Associate's Degree. Because of the newness of the culinary arts major, students may be limited in their degree path choices. Even one of the most famous institutes of culinary arts, the Le Cordon Bleu Institute, does not even offer a Bachelor's degree program!
Students looking to attend online culinary schools should expect to earn degrees in areas such as restaurant management, or business degrees which have a focus on culinary. If their dream is to obtain a degree in cooking itself, they may have to take the path of obtaining an Associate's degree from a traditional brick and mortar college, and then moving on to the online culinary school of their choosing to complete their degree program. If students choose this route, they can enhance their current culinary degrees while working their way up the ladder in the restaurant field!
