Online Fashion Schools
Fashion - some people have got it, some people don't! Fashion designers liven our world, by adding excitement to our everyday wardrobe. How we dress is such an important factor in how we are perceived in this world, for those of us without a "fashion sense," we rely on fashion designers to enlighten us with good color combinations and up-and-coming styles. Some people seem to be born with an eye for design, and long to be in this exciting career path. But, fashion being a highly competitive business, designers are often not looked at unless they possess a degree and some portfolio work as a result. How are you to obtain a design degree with the constraints of work and family? Today, many are attending online fashion schools to solve this problem.
Whether a student does not live close enough to a school which offers a quality degree in fashion, or they are in the process of changing their career path and must continue to work, the convenience of online schools can prove to be greatly beneficial. In the world of online schooling, students often never have to set foot on a campus, instead submitting their assignments via email or web forum. Students receive lectures either in written word or via online video. Interactions with professors and other students take place in the online realm, and at times via phone.
The curriculum of an online fashion school is similar, if not the same, to a campus-based fashion program. Though an outsider may think that a fashion degree only focuses on creating new and exciting products, in reality there are many different aspects of fashion which are studied in a degree program online. Among these many topics are as market analysis, product development, trend analysis, visual research, design conceptualization, line-plan production, computer technology for design, and production and presentation of a professional portfolio.
The different career paths which can be taken after earning a fashion degree are substantial, and dependent on the specialty a student chooses to follow during their schooling. Students can choose from many subsets, including the study to become a Fashion Designer, Pattern Maker or Product Manager; a Textile Designer or Forecaster; a Knitwear Designer; an Accessory or Footwear Designer; a Fashion Journalist; Fashion Merchandiser (including buyers, product developers and store managers and planners), or even a designer in the Cosmetics industry!
Online bachelor's degree programs at online fashion schools can be completed in as little as 18 months time, depending on whether a student is attending school full or part time, and whether they have earned prior college credits. The cost of fashion school ranges from about $200 for a certificate program (which will not earn a student a degree), to about $600 per credit hour in a degree program, dependent on which online school a student chooses to attend.
