The BSHA Program is designed to integrate a foundation of general education and applied sciences with the expertise that prepares the graduate for management positions in health care. The BSHA curriculum addresses the basic body of knowledge, understanding, and skills identified as relevant to health care services: 1. Structuring and positioning health organizations to achieve optimal performance. 2. Financial management of health organizations under alternative financing mechanisms. 3. Leadership, interpersonal, and communications skills in managing human resources and health professionals in diverse organizational environments. 4. Managing information resources and collecting, analyzing, and using business and health information in decision-making. 5. Statistical, quantitative, and economic analysis in decision-making. 6. Legal and ethical analysis applied to business and clinical decision-making. 7. Organizational and governmental health policy formulation, implementation, and effect. 8. Assessment and understanding of the health status of populations, determinants of health and illness, and managing health risks and behaviors in diverse populations. 9. The development, organization, financing, performance, and change of health systems in diverse communities, drawing broadly on the social and behavioral sciences. 10. Business and health outcomes measurement, process/outcome relationships, and methods for process improvement in health organizations. Graduates from the BSHA program have the competencies and skills necessary for mid-level management positions in the health care environment. Specifically, graduates from the BSHA program will demonstrate mastery of the following learning objectives: 1. Integrate social and managerial sciences with theoretical models of health care organizations, including all models of managed care, for effective delivery of health services across the continuum of care. 2.
