What's the best way to add, delete, or modify my list of colleges on my FAFSA?

Question:

What’s the best way to add, delete, or modify my list of colleges on my FAFSA? Is this something my colleges can initiate?

Answer:

The easiest way to make changes to your FAFSA is to log in as a returning user at FAFSA.ed.gov using your FSA ID. On the My FAFSA page, click “Make FAFSA Corrections.”

Go to the “School Selection” page to change the order of the schools listed, or to add or delete schools.

You can also change the list of colleges by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). You’ll need the 4-digit data release number (DRN) that’s printed on your Student Aid Report (SAR) or SAR Acknowledgement.

Here’s another way to add a school: contact the school directly and give them your DRN.

Don’t confuse the DRN with the FSA ID. The FSA ID is used to access and sign the FAFSA, access various U.S. Department of Education websites, and sign federal student loan documents electronically.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to initiate these changes yourself. The schools can’t make the changes without your permission.
