If the student indicates on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) that he or she will have received a high school diploma, he or she will be required to provide the name, city and state of the high school.
The purpose of this question is to help high schools increase the number of students completing the FAFSA. The U.S. Department of Education will share this demographic (non-financial) information with the individual high schools attended by students who complete the FAFSA. The U.S. Department of Education will also compile and publish aggregate statistics by high school.
This question may also be used to verify that the student received a valid high school diploma from the listed high school.
In this question, students are asked to provide the name, city and state where they received, or will receive, their high school diploma. They will then be asked to confirm that their high school is on the list that is displayed on FAFSA on the Web. If the high school is not on the list, the student may type the name of the school. The FAFSA on the Web will not allow students who indicate that they have a high school diploma to skip this question.
