The Tuition Assistance (TA) program pays for up to 100% of the cost of tuition and required fees for off-duty courses at accredited colleges and universities for qualifying active-duty enlisted servicemembers in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard and Reserves. Tuition Assistance will also pay for the cost of obtaining a high school degree. Servicemembers incur a service obligation in exchange for the Tuition Assistance. Servicemembers must receive a minimum GPA or they may be required to repay the TA.
Funding is limited to $250 per semester credit hour ($166 per quarter credit hour) and $4,500 per year. Servicemembers may use GI Bill benefits to “top up” (supplement) TA benefits, paying the difference between tuition and actual TA benefits for high-tuition programs. (Tuition Assistance is sometimes referred to as a “kicker” when used in conjunction with GI Bill benefits.)
