In general, private student loans are based upon your creditworthiness. Undergraduate student borrowers, are typically less likely to be able to demonstrate a strong credit history and qualify for a loan on their own. Student borrowers will tend to need a cosigner to get approved for a private student loan from most lenders. There are a few lenders that will lend without a cosigner, but they are typically the exception and not the rule.
