Women are outnumbering men when it comes to getting their college degrees, and the group of students where this is the most prevalent is African Americans. According to the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, approximately 67% of African-American bachelor’s degrees are earned by Black women. At the graduate level, Black women earn 70% of master’s degrees obtained by Blacks, and greater than 60% of doctoral degrees earned by Black students.
With Black women continuing to attend college and earn their degrees, it is important to emphasize the funding opportunities available to them. Many organizations that were established for the educational and professional advancement of Black women, Black people, and other underrepresented groups provide scholarships that Black women may apply for.
