What is the Student Aid Index
Starting in the 2024-25 cycle, FAFSA replaced the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) with the Student Aid Index (SAI). It better reflects family financial strength and can go below zero. The lower your SAI, the greater your eligibility for need-based aid.
