The Tuition Assistance (TA) initiative covers a maximum of 100% of tuition expenses and mandatory fees for off-duty classes at recognized colleges and universities for eligible active-duty enlisted personnel in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserves. Additionally, TA supports the pursuit of a high school diploma. In return for Tuition Assistance, servicemembers commit to a service obligation. Maintaining a minimum GPA is essential, as failure to do so might necessitate reimbursing the TA funds.
Funding is limited to $250 per semester credit hour ($166 per quarter credit hour) and $4,500 per year. Servicemembers may use GI Bill benefits to “top up” (supplement) TA benefits, paying the difference between tuition and actual TA benefits for high-tuition programs. (Tuition Assistance is sometimes referred to as a “kicker” when used in conjunction with GI Bill benefits.)
