Although the federal government sets an overall deadline for submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), many state governments, colleges and universities set earlier deadlines for consideration of their own financial aid funds. Some do not have a specific deadline date, but award their funds on a first-come, first-served basis, until the money runs out. The states and schools may also have their own financial aid application forms, as do private scholarship-granting organizations.
