Some students will file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) but not qualify for grants or other need-based aid.

More than half of undergraduate students who file the FAFSA qualify for a Federal Pell Grant or other federal grants, which means that many students do not get federal grants. But, all is not lost.

Most students will be eligible for the unsubsidized Federal Stafford loan, which does not depend on demonstrated financial need. Dependent undergraduate students may also be eligible for the Federal Parent PLUS loan. Graduate and professional students may also be eligible for the Federal Grad PLUS loan.
